Vacation 2012- Day 1

We enjoyed our vacation to Gulf Shores so much last year that we decided to return again this summer.  We patiently (or not so patiently) waited all summer to feel the sand between our toes and to hear the rhythmic motion of the tide.  The rates drop dramatically in mid August, and we were able to secure a 7 night stay in a beautiful 2 bedroom condo on the beach for $800.  We enjoyed our time in Gulf Shores this year even MORE than last year which we didn't think was possible.

Warning...this week's posts will be all about our vacation, and several photos will contain middle aged adults (who don't really work out) in swimwear.

Day 1
We left our house at 5 am on Saturday morning and made it to the beach before 6 pm.  We quickly discovered that they were flying red flags, but the water was full of adventurous swimmers.  I (with much persuasion) allowed the kiddos in the water with life jackets.  Andrew waded out and attempted to boogie board once.  He was pushed underwater several times by the strong waves.  He grabbed his board and stomped out of the ocean proclaiming, "I could have drowned!"  We didn't point out the the water was only knee deep AND he was wearing a life jacket.

Thankfully, Olivia felt more comfortable searching for shells and playing in the sand.

We were all exhausted and cable television sounded like the perfect way to finish off the day.  Don't judge.  We are a cable free home, and we have a love for Storage Wars, American Pickers, Pawn Stars, Swamp People, and 19 Kids and Counting.
