Caleb's Nursery

When we started the adoption process the second time, I had absolutley no intention of decorating a nursery until after our first court appearance.

With Jax we had less than 2 weeks from our first meeting with Ashley unitl he was born to prepare the perfect nursery, and you might even remember Jax sleeping in our dining room for several months.

However this time, we had much more time (4 months), and it became very apparent to me that a completed nursery designed specically for Caleb was incredibly important to his birth mother.  As a result, we spent a few months moving everyone (and I mean everyone) around in our new home.  Honestly, I wanted to create a sweet space for as little money and investment as possible.  Please remember that a very large percentage of birth mothers change their minds after the baby is born.  Creating a space that I love for under $100 was so much fun.  I shopped my storage room and my favorite thrift stores, and managed to somehow make it all work together.

Welcome to Caleb's room.

I discovered a simple sign on pinterest that read, "I am going to love him forever", and I knew that it was the one thing that I had to make for this space.  After digging through many piles of discarded outdated framed art, I found this gem.

I know that it will only be a matter of moments before super heros will take over this space, and it will smell less like dirty diapers and more like stinky socks.  Until then, I will be found rocking my loves in this glider (purchased when I was pregnant with Andrew) while loving the baby that calls this room home.

House to Home in 52 {1}

Many have asked if we are starting to feel settled in our new home.  With a deep breath and enormous smile, I am thankful to respond with a resounding "Yes!"

Between selling our home, preparing our rental house for new tenants, moving to our little piece of heaven on earth, and having minor surgery on my lip, I have felt incredibly out of sorts.

This is the first week that our new house has been filled with people we love.  There have been belly laughs, tears of joy and sorrow, spilled milk, words of encouragement spoken, voices united in prayer, and deep, real, meaningful conversations.

As I sit on my freshly Febreezed couch (Jax peed on it yesterday), I realize that our house is quickly becoming a home.   My world is back on its' axis, and my purpose has once again been made crystal clear.  Feeling 'settled' has nothing to do with unpacked boxes, art hung on the walls, or paint swatches.  It is all about the people we love and the relationships that we are continually building.

I have decided to document our year long journey as we make this house our home. There will certainly be art created, junk transformed, and walls painted, but there will also be a lot of love.
