My Sweet Scotty and I are celebrating our 16th anniversary today. It still feels like we are 20 year old kids living on love while trying to survive in this crazy world. (Only now, we are dragging 3 precious kiddos along with us and sporting a few gray hairs.) When I think back on the past 16 years, I am so thankful that we have fought for our marriage. I am certain that this fella is my greatest blessing on this earth.
20 things that I adore about this man: (in no particular order)
1.) He surrounds himself with godly family-oriented men who love to discus (in great detail) their mini-vans.
2.) He is my very own personal bootcamp instructor.
3.) Fantasy football is one of his greatest sources of individual entertainment. I watched one Saturday morning as a particularly inquisitive young man sat as close to him as possible, asked as many questions as one could possibly ask in an hour, and beg to play a part in the decision making process. Scott never once became impatient, but allowed it to be a memorable bonding experience.
4.) He is a baby magnet. I am confident that it stems from his easy going, playful, confident personality.
5.) He is incredibly successful in business, but the majority of people in our lives have no idea just how successful that he really is.
6.) He makes everything look easy. The keyword being "makes". It isn't always easy, but he tackles obstacles head on without complaint.
7.) While having a heart to heart discussion last week, he looked me in the eyes and confidently stated, "I have loved you every second for almost half of my life." And...I have felt loved for just as many seconds.
8.) He thinks about the beach as much, if not more, than I do. We are already planning our pilgrimage to what will be our forever home while here on the earth.
9.) To know him is to really know him. He is constant and real.
10.) He laughs at himself a lot, and he has taught me to find the humor in my shortcomings.
11.) He is the tooth fairy. One evening several weeks ago, Andrew lost a tooth. The following morning, he came out of his room convinced that the tooth fairy had forgotten all about him. I simply stated, "Go talk to the Tooth Fairy. She is disguised as a 37 year old man working in the basement."
12.) He has a heart for evangelism. In fact, he is in the process of writing a book on the topic.
13.) A month or so ago, he jumped out of the car almost before putting it into park to assist an elderly man who had fallen.
14.) He isn't at all picky when it comes to food. Have I mentioned that I don't like to cook?
15.) People from his past are always expressing how thankful they are for something he said or did years ago. It is often centered around the fact that he boldly served God in high school.
16.) He is confident. He has learned to only value his identity in Christ.
17.) He is a planner and always full of fun surprises.
18.) There are no words to describe him as a father. He genuinely loves his children, and they know it.
19.) He is always willing to participate in my crazy schemes...be it cloth diapering, recycling, gardening, repainting for the hundredth time, etc. However, I can't seem to convince him to sell all that we have, buy an RV, and travel around the country. Time. Just give me time. :)
20.) He is a giver of not only his money, but also his time and talents.
So...I couldn't stop at just 20.
21.) At parent teacher conferences, Olivia's teacher mentioned that she uses a lot of post it notes. Scott kindly asked if he could have one. He used it to leave Oli a super sweet love note.
22.) In September, Scott spent the week in Chicago on business. He doesn't travel much these days. He called home too many times to count because he desperately missed his loves.
23.) I can't fail to mention that he is a hunk!
